Sailgating Husky Stadium in 2025: Your Guide to Game Day by Boat

Drop anchor at Husky Harbor and Sailgate with UW fans. Boat to the game from Newport or South Lake Union and make Saturdays a memory on the water.

What Makes Sailgating So Special?

Not many college stadiums in the country let you arrive by boat. Husky Stadium does and it’s what makes Seattle game days so unforgettable! Extend your boating season and join other fans in the tradition of boating to the game.

Is it too late to sailgate this season?

It’s not too late! The Huskies are 5-2 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play, and the biggest games are still to come. Here’s what’s left after Illinois

That’s five games left, including three at Husky Stadium — and it all wraps up with Oregon to close out the season.

How to Join the Tradition

New to sailgating? Here’s an easy way to get to Husky Harbor in Union Bay from any of the Seattle Boat Marinas. Be sure to plan 30-60min to find your spot and get settled.

  • From Seattle Main - (20min Trip) East through the Montlake Cut (under Montlake Bridge)
  • From Lake Union - (25min Trip) East Under Ship Canal Bridge (I5) and University Bridge, through the Montlake Cut (under Montlake Bridge)
  • From Newport - (40min Trip) North under I-90, then the 520 bridge

Attending the Game?

Some fans stay rafted up on their boats during kickoff, while others hop the shuttle to catch the game in person. If you plan to go inside, you’ll need a ticket — get tickets here. No ticket required if you are just sailgating from the water.

No Moorage? No Problem — Take the Shuttle

There is moorage at Husky Harbor, but there is a long waitlist to snag one of its 150 slips and is based on "priority points" with the university. There is a "complimentary" boat shuttle that will pick you up from your boat and shuttle you to the dock.  Here's what you need to know:

  • Runs 2 hours before kickoff and 1 hour after the game.
  • $10 per person (kids under 2 ride free).
  • Cash and credit accepted.
  • Wave them down with your hands, a life vest, or a boating flag (pro tip: do it about an hour before kickoff).
  • Limited-service late October and November — always call ahead or email uwharbor@uw.ed to confirm.

Anchoring at Husky harbor in Union Bay

The bay is shallow with poor holding, so use a heavy anchor and chain. North and west of the green buoy is off-limits. Please be aware of other boaters and watch your markers.

What to Wear

Fall boating means one thing: layers, and lots of them! Think sweatshirt, raincoat, warm socks, dry clothes — and don’t forget to pile on the Husky purple, whether it’s on you or hanging from your boat. Once you’re all set, snap a photo of your crew or your decked-out boat and send it to marketing@seattleboat.com. We’d love to feature you on our social channels and show off how you do game day on the water!

Ready for Kickoff?

There’s no better way to stretch your Seattle boating season than sailgating with the Huskies. Whether you’re anchoring in Union Bay, catching the shuttle from your boat, or tying up with friends, sailgating is more than game day — it’s a Seattle tradition.

Game day is calling. Will you be on the water when the Dawgs take the field?
